- Does your raw materials need de-lumping before mixing?
- What kind of powder mixer is best suited for your material?
- Does you product require granulation? And if so is your process wet or dry granulation?
- Do you need to sieve out for specific particle sizes?
- Does your process possibly prefer a roller compactor?

When considering the actual tablet press / compression machine the 10 key elements to be answered are:
- The dimensions of the tablet
- The weight of the tablet
- Do you need a B or a D type machine?
- Do you need a GMP machine? or is an ‘open type’ machine suitable for your needs?
- The product you plan to make – eg: is it an effervescent? or is it a herbal tablet? or is it just a standard pharmaceutical tablet made from free flowing powder?
- How many tablets do you need to make per hour?
- Do you need a single sided press of a double sided press?
- Is your product a bi-layer tablet?
- Does your environment require the machine to be ATEX rated?
- Do you require a de-duster and metal detector combination?
