Lobe Pumps and Product Transfer Equipment in the Eastern Cape
Product transfer can become challenging when a medium is viscous, contains particles or must be handled without excessive damage. Acufill Processing and Packaging Equipment (Pty) Ltd supplies Durrex lobe pumps and supporting process pump equipment to manufacturers across the Eastern Cape.
The available solutions include rotary pump systems for transferring products, homogeneous pump equipment for reducing and dispersing particles, and grinding pumps for gradual refinement.
How Durrex Lobe Pumps Transfer Product
Inside a Durrex lobe pump, timed rotors turn in opposite directions. As the lobes rotate, they create cavities that draw the medium into the pump and carry it towards the discharge connection.
The rotors remain separated from one another and from the internal pump surface. This non-contact design limits friction and supports a longer service life.
Lobe pumps can handle many different product consistencies. Applications may range from thin liquids to syrups, creams, adhesives, pastes and other highly viscous media.
Some rotor configurations are designed to transfer mixtures containing solid particles. Others offer greater capacity or improved stability, so the selection should be based on the product and the level of handling required.
Control and Connection Choices
A variable-speed inverter can be used to alter the flow rate of the rotary pump. This is useful when production rates change or when different products are processed through the same system.
Customers may select threaded, flange or clamp connections to suit existing pipework. Adjustable pump bases are also available to help align the inlet and outlet with a production line.
Pumps for Special Processing Conditions
Durrex supplies specialised lobe pumps for products that present feeding or temperature challenges.
A rectangular inlet offers a larger entry point for thick products that do not flow freely. A jacket surrounding the pump body can circulate steam or hot water to maintain temperature and reduce the risk of the medium solidifying.
Mobile lobe pumps make it possible to transfer product in different areas of a facility without installing a dedicated pump at each point. Compact direct-connected designs are another option for production areas where space is limited.
Cleaning and Hygienic Construction
Selected Durrex models are suitable for hygienic applications and support CIP and SIP cleaning.
Stainless-steel protective covers can reduce exposure of the motor and gearbox during washdown. Hygienic safety valves, smooth internal surfaces and clamp connections can also be included according to the process requirements.
Homogeneous Pump Applications
A homogeneous pump performs several processing steps within one working chamber. Rotor and stator components operate at high speed to create repeated shear, turbulence and impact.
This can support the mixing of different product phases, reduction of agglomerates and production of a more even final consistency.
The DHX range includes different stage arrangements, allowing customers to choose between lower and higher levels of shearing.
Grinding Pumps in the Eastern Cape
Grinding pumps use layered toothed discs to refine products as they pass through the chamber. Wider initial gaps allow larger particles to enter, while narrower final gaps produce a finer result.
The clearance may be fixed, manually adjusted or automatically controlled.
